Zero Punctuation Reviews Zack & Wiki (NSFW)

March 26th, 2008 Chris Tou

This week’s Zero Punctuation review by Yahtzee is of Zack & Wiki, which was inevitable, given Yahtzee’s well-known love for adventure games. Zack & Wiki is an awesome game that everybody liked, but no one bought, a genre that Capcom specializes in, what with Okami suffering the same fate…

As usual, click on the image above to see the slightly NSFW review and meeting your monthly quota of Roberta Williams references.

For those of you keeping count, that brings to a total of 3 Capcom games (DMC4 & RE:UC are the others) that Yahtzee has reviewed now. Since he only does one game a week, either he really loves us, or we’re using up our quota way too early.

50% Off Zack & Wiki!

March 11th, 2008 Chris Tou

This week Toys “R” Us is offering a special deal where if you purchase the recently released Super Smash Brothers Brawl, you automatically receive 50% off the purchase price of a select list of games. While the list games that the discount applies to is mostly unimpressive, a purchase of Zack & Wiki will qualify for the 50% off discount.

If you’re still on the fence about Zack & Wiki, why not try out the Z-Dub Flash Demo and see how awesome it is for yourself?

New Zack and Wiki Flash Demo!

March 4th, 2008 Seth Killian

Using assets from the complete game, Nintendo has recreated an entire Zack & Wiki level as a free flash demo! While not as supremely awesome as Wii-ing your way through the level (Z&W has the most–and most unique–Wiimote interactions of any game I’ve ever played), the demo does give you an excellent introduction to the game’s unique brand of interactive puzzle solving.

Here’s what you do:

1) Head over to their Zack & Wiki site and chose your language.

2) Hit the gameplay “Gameplay” tab.

3) Click “Play a demo level.”

4) Profit.

If you’ve decided to ignore all of the amazing reviews for this game, you owe it to yourself to at least check out this demo!

Blogs, Babes, and Beyond

January 22nd, 2008 Tiffany Thai

Hello, Tiffany Thai here.

I work in the wonderful and exciting world of Finance here at Capcom, so I’m not exactly wrapped up in the day-to-day process of game-making. I do, however, follow the industry and have a pretty decent understanding of what goes into game development. As an opinionated female gamer, I am hoping to offer a unique perspective on the industry and will do my best to provide interesting and honest commentary.

Let me just say up front that I am certainly not a ‘hard core’ gamer. In fact, I think I am just the type of market demographic that Nintendo is targeting with the Wii. I generally prefer games like Mario, Zelda, and Zack & Wiki – games heavily focused on gameplay and simple yet high quality art styles.

Ok, let’s get on with the show.

Speaking of “the show,” I’ll use this entry as the first of many calls to reinstate E3 to its’ former glory. It was precisely the spectacle of the show that landed the industry on the 6 o’clock news and caused a world-wide buzz. It was a party! Of course, you can’t complete this carnival atmosphere without the reinstatement of the “Booth Babes.” Why were they banned in the first place? You can’t even get in to the convention unless you are 18+.

Let’s not kid ourselves. We are not selling dish washing detergent or wine, we are selling entertainment. Looking at hot chicks peddling games is entertaining. I mean, come on, we are selling some of the most over-the-top violent and sexualized entertainment ever (no need to name names) and we want the most visible industry event turned into a stuffed-suit marketing exercise? No thanks.

The new name for E3 is “The E3 Media & Business Summit.” Sounds like a riot. Wait, actually it sounds like a bunch of old guys meeting to discuss political policy related to effects of digital information and its impact on global stability. The production of E3’s tagline used to be “E3: Where Business Gets Fun.”

I think I preferred that one.

And so do these girls…

Zack & Wiki, Most Dynamic Duo Since Batman & Robin

January 15th, 2008 Chris Tou

It’s official. Both the GameSpot reviewers and its readers has confirmed what we knew all along: Zack & Wiki, despite their cutish looks and child-like charm, is more than a match for the formerly most powerful duo of them all, Batman and Robin. They went on the hunt for some bearded dude’s treasure, and came back with GameSpot’s Best Adventure Game of 2007 Award instead.

Not only that, but they are currently running away with the Readers’ Choice votes as well, receiving twice the votes of their next closest competitor and a few presidential candidates.

Random Stuff Lying Around the Office

January 9th, 2008 Seth Killian

Since we don’t post eeeeelegal magazine scans and the Famitsu featuring the exciting new SFIV character hasn’t actually come out yet, it’s time instead for an exciting installment of [echoing announcer voice on] “Random Stuff Lying Around the Office,” where we bring you up-close and personal with the promotional trinkets that light our days and fill our nights. This episode is brought to you courtesy of Chris’s mighty phone cam.

First up is a sweet new Devil May Cry 4 art book. It’s hardbound and full of goodness showing how the world of DMC4 goes from concept art to fully-rendered models. Here’s a scan of the cover, as well as a couple of sample pages here and here for you to drool over.

2007 1UP Awards

December 19th, 2007 Chris Tou

For most, the end of the year usually is a time for too much eggnog, finally getting to touch a member of the opposite sex thanks to the magical Mistletoe, and making resolutions that you know you will never keep. However, the end of the year also signals the time for the reason you couldn’t keep those resolutions, videos games, to be given the proper recognition they deserve. 1up.com is getting the ball rolling, and among its nominees were several of our very own Capcom titles. Devil May Cry 4 Visits Gotham

December 11th, 2007 Lindsay

Sub-zero temperatures and at least a 45-minute wait didn’t stop Devil May Cry fans to play Devil May Cry 4 on the PS3 and Xbox 360 at this year’s New York Anime Festival. Yes, actually play DMC4 before it hits stores on February 5th!

Thank you to all of you that came by our booth. And sorry for not letting in all the under-17 year olds to play—I know you understand even though you were hating on us.

P.S.: Ashley—we’ll see you at the next festival, and first in line to play Devil May Cry?

P.P.S.: Mom and Daughter team—we’re still waiting for you to post that video of Mom playing DMC4!
