We Love Golf: The Fans Have Spoken!

May 16th, 2008 Seth Killian

In addition to the Wii-tastic golf action, one of the really fun things about We Love Golf is the alternate Capcom costumes for the characters. When we heard the team was adding two new characters for the upcoming Western release of the game, we asked “Why not let our fans pick the alternate costumes for the new guys?”

As it turns out, everybody at Capcom had lots of extremely good reasons why this was a terrible idea. But then we did it anyway!

For the female character, your choices for the alternate costumes were Cammy (Street Fighter), Morrigan (Darkstalkers), Rouge (Power Stone), Roll Caskett (Mega Man Legends), and Ashley Graham (Resident Evil). For the men, the options were Frank West (Dead Rising), Balrog (Street Fighter boxer), Guy (Final Fight), Ken (Street Fighter), Dhalsim (Street Fighter), and Captain Commando (from, um, Captain Commando).

Today we’re proud to announce the fans’ choices: Darkstalkers’ own Morrigan, and Street Fighter’s Ken! Morrigan’s outfit is available as Stephanie’s alternate costume, and you’ll find Ken’s red gi on Mark, giving us our first African-American incarnation of Ken Masters!

Thanks to everyone who voted for making this a ton of fun and adding some great surprises to the game.

Have you heard? We love golf! And so does Gametrailers!

Capcom’s own Takeshita-san and the awesome Takahashi Brothers from Camelot spent last week running up and down the California coastline on press tour for We Love Golf, which will be out here in the US in July. They met with Gametrailers and things went swimmingly, as you can see in the following game demo.

Capcom Digital Day Blow Out!

March 13th, 2008 Chris Tou

Earlier this week we managed to turn our normally spacious lobby area into a place packed with a better ratio of Quality Fun Per Square Inch than Disneyland during our Capcom Digital Day. We invited members of the press and community to come and check out in person both the announced and unannounced new titles we have coming up this year. As the event title suggests, the focus was mostly on “digital” titles, downloadable titles to be released on XBLA, PSN, or PC, however, we still managed to sneak in a couple of full retail titles.

Capcom Digital Day news hits the Webz

March 13th, 2008 Chris "Kramez" Kramer

Gametrailers Digital day coverageIt’s no secret that Capcom’s got an amazing year (actually: three, at least) of games ahead. Our titles range far and wide, from family-friendly Wii (We Love Golf!) and DS (Mega Man Star Force 2) games to decidedly non-family friendly faire for the PS3 and 360 (Resident Evil 5).

1up covers PlunderWhat the heck is a “Digital Day”? On Monday, we rolled out the red carpet to some of our friends in the local gamer media as well as a couple of dudes (just like you!) from our community for an event we dubbed “Capcom Digital Day.” Fortuitous development timing and a huge slate of hot titles combined with an excellent public relations opportunity to form like Voltron and produce a half-day of announcements, updates, interviews and hands-on time with almost all of the games. We ended up with over 50 members of the San Francisco Bay Area games press in attendance, including folks from EGM, 1up, IGN, Gamespot, Gamespy, Gametrailers and Games Radar, as well as ladies and gentlemen from Wired, Joystiq and Destructoid and many, many more. Read on for titles announced, a brief lesson in “PR” and some other fun bits!

IGN and Nintendo Power totally Love Golf. So do We! Online, even!

March 12th, 2008 Chris "Kramez" Kramer

WLG! screen shotDo you love golf? We Love Golf! True story. In fact, we love golf so much, that we’ve decided to let you play online with yer virtual duffer pals (a feature that was not included in the Japanese version of the game released in December, pwnzor3d!) when the game ships in North America this summer. Nintendo Power went and broke the news on the sweet new online features in their print book, but they do not have teh intarwebz lookey-spot for their magazine as of yet, so you’re going to have to (eek!) leave your home and go buy a copy, you crusty internet troll. Instead, may we direct your online eyeballs to this neat-o piece on IGN? It appears that they, too, love golf! IGN even mentions the outcome of the We Love Golf! Capcom costume poll that we ran RIGHT HERE ON CAPCOM UNITY!!1

Bonus: gratuitous screen shot of golfer in Zack costume to start the article.

Kotaku Interviews Hironobu Takeshita

September 25th, 2007 Chris Tou

Gaming blog Kotaku managed to catch up to the very busy Hironobu Takeshita, producer of Zack & Wiki and the recently announced We Love Golf!, during the Tokyo Game Show. Takeshita-san lends some insight into interesting topics such as how the name for Zack & Wiki was arrived at, and the fact that he hasn’t actually played any golf!

To start he said that Treasure Island Z was out because they couldn’t secure the international right to the name because of the book. They went through almost two hundred other names before settling on Zak and Wiki.
