Not all TV news presenters are idiots: Harvey and DMC4 on CNN

February 5th, 2008 Chris "Kramez" Kramer

Harvey on CNNWhat’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen on CNN lately? I’m guessing that, right after dancing Spongebob, the image of Harvey at the left ranks pretty high.

CNN’s Matt Cabral actually knows games! After the FOX News Mass Effect “s-Xbox” brouhaha over the last few weeks, it’s easy to fall back into the “all TV ‘journalists’ are idiots” mentality, that the grinning pretty skulls who host “news” shows on the boob tube know as much about video games as you do about nuclear medicine (probably even less) . While it’s true that the one-eyed wondermonkey does have its fair share of borderline Neanderthals, CNN’s Matt Cabral is not to be lumped in with those anchors who view video games in the same way the apes at the start of 2001 viewed the Monolith: something strange to beat with a club. Whew! Sorry, RantMode = 0.

Nero on CNNMatt recently popped up on Ted Turner’s 24 Britney Spears Emergency Update Network to talk slowly and patiently to the folks in the fly-over states about video games and how they can be, y’know, fun and not scary (although he does end his segment with a bit linking games and nuclear annihilation — what’s a CNN segment without making you brown your shorts?). Matt talks about the Lost game (eek!), the Guinness Book of Video Game Records (really?) and most importantly, Harvey Birdman and Devil May Cry 4.

To view a talking head on the teevee who actually knows something about video games (plus rocks a goatee-shaved head-earring combo you only wish you could pull off), check this link.
