While there’s nothing as exciting as playing Street Fighter IV, I think we can all agree that listening to my nasal monotone narrating a slide show of SFIV stills is a very close second.
As such, please enjoy this little overview of Abel’s specials moves, how they work, and a few of the horrible things you can do with them to the people you love. If you are too good for youtube, a more easily ipodified link can be found here.
As you probably already know, our recent Capcom Digital Day event was a media event. Meaning, the invites were extended only to gaming press and media folks, as opposed to the general public. What you probably didn’t know was that we actually extended a few “community” invites to the Capcom community: Loyal Capcom community fans who happened to be located around the San Francisco area.
I followed two of them, Tony and Alex, around for most of the event, getting their informal impressions on what they saw and taking pictures of the whole thing. At the end of which held a special surprise for them!
As of this moment, Crimson Viper and Abel have been the only new characters announced for Street Fighter IV, but the time has finally come to lift the curtain on yet another new warrior!
Judging by his appearance and profile, it looks like he utilizes a pro wrestling style. In fact, his style is none other than Mexico’s famous Lucha Libre brand of wrestling! Will we see that style’s trademark aerial acrobatics at work? We can only hope and wait with baited breath…
This fiery fighter is a man who divides his professional life between Lucha Libre wrestling and gourmet cooking. His hot-blooded spirit is enough to give even the mighty Red Cyclone a run for his money! Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for his lackluster cooking skills…
Chris Tou is out of the office today, and neither Seth nor I are smart enough to figure out how to get the English version of this awesome 3 minute AOU trailer onto Capcom’s YouTube account. Fortunately, Gametrailers.com has done our job for us, as you can see. For the real deal, however, go to their site to check this trailer in glorious HD. Thanks, Shane!
For those not in “the industry,” as we call it (to our everlasting shame), GDC is the annual gathering of the supernerds; the be-all, end-all mecca for the men and women who actually crank out these special, magical treasures we shamelessly refer to as “product” in marketingland. Last week, Capcom crashed the 2008 Game Developers Conference in a big way. While coders were getting their code on across the street at the Moscone Center, a few Capcom staffers set up basecamp at the St. Regis Hotel, ensconced in a lovely suite that contained both flavors of Bionic Commando as well as the first two Street Fighter IV arcade machines to hit the US. It was three days of pizza, video games and high energy. More follows, so come along with me to reminisce about last week… Read the rest of this entry »
The rumors are true–a new build of SFIV has hit Japanese arcades. Though still far from complete, the new build does have some additional content beyond the version recently on display at GDC, and we have some pictures of a few of the machines with people playing on stages never before seen publicly.
Giant hotel suite + free drinks + food (okay, pretty much just pizza and maraschino cherries) + the only SFIV cabinents on the continent = instant party. There was plenty of shouting, some money matches broke out, and we kept everything in check with some anti-stink spray. The tournament was won by “Debonair” Dan Boutros (pictured above) playing a filthy cheap Blanka.
While suite access was limited to press and some special guests, there will be more of this to come soon. Check out the flickr set for the full story.
Most of the photos speak for themselves (translation: I am so tired I could cry and am too lazy to talk them up), but beyond the sound of 12 billion “hadokens” ringing in my ears, the days highlights included running into a bunch of Tokyo-area Street Fighter personalities, including Mr. Matsuda, Mr. Sawatari (Editor-in-Chief of Arcadia), Chamu Chun, famous Necro player PinoAB7, and the irrepressible Miu.
Also from the Capcom booth–we apparently endorse the product line of an excitable guy in briefs. Probably there’s an explanation for this but I prefer bemused mystification.
Seth Killian here, checking in from what’s proven to be a last-minute excursion to Tokyo to check out Capcom’s booth at this year’s AOU Show. Held on the outskirts of Tokyo, this is a major gamer festival, the arcade world’s version of Tokyo Game Show/E3/Games Convention. Abusing my Capcom staff powers, I snuck into the show early to grab some photos of our booth before the show officially gets underway. Come with me (or check out our flickr set) and I’ll take you for a special Unity insider preview of the arcade show that will undoubtedly become known as “the first time the public was able to play street Fighter IV.” Read the rest of this entry »
