New Resident Evil 5 Producer Interview

June 10th, 2008 Seth Killian

Gamevideos is hosting a new video interview (from Garnett Lee?) with Resident Evil 5 superproducer Jun Takeuchi.

Takeuchi-san talks about what’s been happening in terms of the story (game takes place shortly after RE4), the fate of the Umbrella Corporation, the demise of S.T.A.R.S., and Chris Redfield’s new organization, and the game’s oxymoronically *great* zombie AI.

The Inevitable “Fire Level”: We Owns It!

June 3rd, 2008 Seth Killian

Nerve.com put together a nice Top 10 list of the greatest Fire Levels in gaming history, complete with videos. With winners from Mega Man, Resident Evil, and Super Ghouls n’ Ghosts, the list is dominated by Capcom, showing that even when you’re doing a cliched level type, you can still do it RIGHT.

I’d personally nominate “Crimson River” from Lost Planet Colonies as well :)

Check out their list here!

Nothing says “zombie apocalypse” like a one-armed bandit

May 23rd, 2008 Chris "Kramez" Kramer

Resident Evil pachislotCapcom Japan’s Investor Relations group has been very busy this week, releasing all sorts of interesting financial data and new business information. Amongst the torrent of data comes word of a new Resident Evil-flavored Pachislot machine, developed by Yamasa. Pachislot is essentially a slot machine, but these usually live in the neon-exploded depths of Japan’s approximately two trillion sketchy Pachinko parlors. Capcom has done a few Pachislot machines in the past, including the DMC 3 and Onimusha 3 machines that are on display in the Capcom Tokyo offices.

EDGE walks down memory lane with RE2

May 16th, 2008 Chris "Kramez" Kramer

Resident Evil 2 title screenRE2 is oddly under the radar for most folks. People tend to fondly remember the dogs crashing through the windows in RE1, Nemesis coming after you with a vengeance in RE3 and the overall general awesomeness of RE4. I really dug RE2 because so much of it happened outdoors and in a variety of buildings; after spending almost 2 years doing PR on the first game, the mansion from RE1 had started to feel a bit claustrophobic. I also found it interesting that neither Chris nor Jill returned from the first game, which was simultaneously disappointing and very Capcom. Edge Magazine in the UK also has fond memories of the game, check out their “Time Extend” feature on the game here.

RE5 teaser screen shots in new issue of Game Informer!

May 15th, 2008 Chris "Kramez" Kramer

Game Informer June 2008 issue with new RE5 shotsRun, do not walk, to your nearest Gamestop. Give the cashier your money, grab the new issue of Game Informer and head directly to page 64. There, in a glorious two-page spread, you will be treated to ten new screens from Resident Evil 5. In fact, if you look close, you can see Chris Redfield’s unshaven mug in the upper right corner. What’s going on in these screens? I know, but if I didn’t tell Game Informer when we sent them the images, I’m certainly not going to spill the beans here (other than to say that at least one of their guesses is wildly off the mark). The shots are hotness personified (imagified?) and demand your eyeballs’s full attention post-haste. Go!

New Resident Evil 5 trailer to premier on “Gametrailers TV with Geoff Keighley” May 31 @ 1 AM EST/PST

May 15th, 2008 Chris "Kramez" Kramer

CAPTIVATE08 is coming up fast, people, and we can barely contain all the awesomeness that will be bustin’ out of our event. To wit: yer gonna get a chance to see the next (incredible!) trailer for RE5 right as CAPTIVATE08 ends! Gametrailers TV with Geoff Keighley will be debuting the new RE5 trailer on Spike TV Friday night/Saturday morning, May 31 at 1 AM EST/PST. Set your friggin’ TiVOs now, campers, as you cannot miss this. I’ve personally watched the trailer about a dozen times now, and I’m still seeing new stuff each time I look at it. It’s filled with evil — EEEEEEVILL! — and running and terror and shooting and exploding and horrible critters trying to suck poor Chris Redfield’s face off. More to come!

Capcom Kirbies!

April 16th, 2008 Chris Tou

I’ve been meaning to post this, but webcomic VG Cats had a strip one day, probably in celebration of a game that totally should have had Mega Man in it, called “100 Kirbies”, dedicated to the “what if” forms that Kirby could take on if he had to chance to suck them down like so many Slurpies.

How many incarnations can you recognize above? (Hint: They’re all Capcom related)

After you’re done with that lineup, check out the full strip. Scroll to the bottom of strip if you’re wondering which Kirby each is.

Resident Evil: Genesis Now Irradiating N. American Crania

March 12th, 2008 Seth Killian

Do you find regular-sized Resident Evil to be entirely too big? Then consider our new Resident Evil: Genesis, which fits neatly inside your pocket (unless you have one of those bag phones owned by all of 1985’s coolest guys).

Resident Evil: Genesis is an all new zombie-hunting adventure that returns the player to the frightening events that introduced the world to the Umbrella Corporation. It begins in a crumbling mansion overrun with zombies and other horrific preternatural mutations (not as horrific as the phrase “horrific preternatural mutations,” however). As one of the last remaining survivors of the elite S.T.A.R.S. police unit, the player must unravel devious puzzles and survive the deadly creatures armed only with their wits and whatever weapons they can find.

The completely objective Midori Yuasa (President, Capcom Interactive, Inc.) says “The Resident Evil franchise has a long and storied history with Capcom. Resident Evil: Genesis delivers on the promise of thrilling, frightening and exciting gameplay that has become the hallmark of the series.”

Even people that don’t have their rents paid by this game think it’s pretty sweet. Resident Evil: Genesis scored an “A” on 1UP.com and a 7.8/10 on IGN. The wireless debut for the iconic survival horror series is currently available on most major North American carriers. Click here to check out a few screens.
