New Resident Evil 5 trailer to premier on “Gametrailers TV with Geoff Keighley” May 31 @ 1 AM EST/PST

May 15th, 2008 Chris "Kramez" Kramer

CAPTIVATE08 is coming up fast, people, and we can barely contain all the awesomeness that will be bustin’ out of our event. To wit: yer gonna get a chance to see the next (incredible!) trailer for RE5 right as CAPTIVATE08 ends! Gametrailers TV with Geoff Keighley will be debuting the new RE5 trailer on Spike TV Friday night/Saturday morning, May 31 at 1 AM EST/PST. Set your friggin’ TiVOs now, campers, as you cannot miss this. I’ve personally watched the trailer about a dozen times now, and I’m still seeing new stuff each time I look at it. It’s filled with evil — EEEEEEVILL! — and running and terror and shooting and exploding and horrible critters trying to suck poor Chris Redfield’s face off. More to come!

Shawn Baxter (Snow Infernus/The Nubbin): He’s going to CAPTIVATE08. Are you?

April 29th, 2008 Chris "Kramez" Kramer

Snow Infernus forum .sigShawn Baxter, aka “Snow Infernus” and “The Nubbin,” is one of Capcom Unity’s most enthusiastic members. So much so, in fact, that a good portion of Capcom’s US marketing group — and some of our Japanese devs as well — actually know his name. Shawn is a constant poster on the forums, comments on blogs, pops into Friday PAC sessions regularly and has tons of dialog with other Unity folks as well as Capcom community commandos like Seth, Chris, Christian and myself (too many Chriseses, which is why I am always “Kramer”). And, as mentioned in the previous post, he’s also a pretty snazzy artiste, whipping up the kick-ass Lost Planet PS3 theme. Shawn’s one of the reasons why we’ve focused so much on our community outreach over the last 18 months: to be able to connect directly with people just like you, the diehard Capcom fan.

He’s got a goooooolden ticketAnd that’s why Shawn will be joining Capcom in Las Vegas for CAPTIVATE08, our blow-out, world-wide media summit. Shawn is going to be amongst the first on the planet to see and experience some of the secret gems that we’ll be rolling out, and we’re pleased as punch that he’s going to be there with us.

How hardcore is young master Nubbin? He’s so hardcore that we actually informed him of his selection for CAPTIVATE08 via Xbox LIVE email. In real life, Shawn is a 21-year-old designer from Illinois who is quite possibly the world’s biggest Lost Planet fan. Shawn came to Capcom Unity by having his ass handed to him at Lost Planet multiplayer demo matches; turned out the player using him for target practice was Brian Dunn, our original Lost Planet blogger. Shawn’s done a number of cool freebie Capcom-centric designs, including some awesome Windows desktops and now his design work has actually landed him some paid gigs from Capcom; he’s currently taking stabs at a few different logo concepts, as well as whipping up a new Lost Planet COLONIES t-shirt. Since joining Unity, Shawn has posted over 2,300 messages on the forums, averaging almost 5 posts per day!

As Shawn puts it: “Lost Planet and the Capcom Unity site was the start of meeting a lot of Capcom employees, and great new friends. And it started a serious addiction to Capcom games. I always played Capcom games, but never knew what a difference being a part of the community would make.” We agree.

One down, four to go. Are you gonna make it? Keep your eyes on Capcom Unity, as CAPTIVATE08 is nearly upon us…

“Gamers Day” is dead, long live the CAPTIVATE08 Media Summit. Plus: How do YOU score a Golden Ticket to attend?

March 28th, 2008 Chris "Kramez" Kramer

Charlie and the Chocolate FactoryI just responded to a thread in the forums asking about Capcom’s annual “Gamers Day” and when it will be happening this year. Based on the amount of views and responses in the thread, I thought I should jump in to clarify. Then I ended up writing 800 words. Much like Ryan Adams, I really need an editor to keep me on track. Enough interesting info poured into my post, based on several random things I’ve got cooking here, that I thought I’d also cross-post here on the blog.

Officially, we have killed our Gamers Day event. Dead, like doornail. We’ve moved instead to a new media summit format, which we’re calling CAPTIVATE08, and holding in Las Vegas at the end of May. You might not really care, but there’s a bunch of information about the event after the jump, hints towards what’s coming/being shown, vaguely ramblings on the next phase of Capcom Unity and the tantalizingly-dangled news that members of our community are going to have the opportunity to attend our media summit. Got some time to kill? Follow the link to more words!

Resident Evil: Zero on the Wii? Hai, but in Japan only…

February 28th, 2008 Chris "Kramez" Kramer

Famitsu RE Zero articleNews has leaked outta Japan (courtesy of Famitsu Magazine, aka, “How US and European branches of Japanese game companies find out about new games coming from their company” Magazine) about a new-old game coming to Wii, Resident Evil: Zero. Is it in production? Yep. Is it coming to Japan or Europe? Probably not. For various boring corporate reasons, Capcom Entertainment and Capcom Europe have both decided to take a pass on this particular Wii-make. We are watching the progress on the game, and if it ends up blowing up huge like RE4 Wii did, we’ll evaluate the possibility of bringing it over here and flipping the lingo sos that y’all can read it. In the meantime, your old GC copies of RE:Zero run just fine in your Wii, sans wiggle-waggle action  ;)

On the internet? Have a strong opinion? Feel like complaining? Perhaps have the urge to type out some ampersand-laced profanity and get a warning from Chris “Lost” Tou? Here’s the thread on our message boards, go to town!

Devil May Cry 4 Visits Gotham

December 11th, 2007 Lindsay

Sub-zero temperatures and at least a 45-minute wait didn’t stop Devil May Cry fans to play Devil May Cry 4 on the PS3 and Xbox 360 at this year’s New York Anime Festival. Yes, actually play DMC4 before it hits stores on February 5th!

Thank you to all of you that came by our booth. And sorry for not letting in all the under-17 year olds to play—I know you understand even though you were hating on us.

P.S.: Ashley—we’ll see you at the next festival, and first in line to play Devil May Cry?

P.P.S.: Mom and Daughter team—we’re still waiting for you to post that video of Mom playing DMC4!

The line to play DMC4 stretches around the corner

Capcom rocks 1up.com’s Game of the Year 2007 Nominations

December 3rd, 2007 Chris "Kramez" Kramer

1up.com just spilled the beans on their categories and nominees for Game of the Year 2007, and we’re pleased as punch to see that there are several Capcom games included on their list.

We’re both amazed and excited to see Zack and Wiki on the 1up list for Game of the Year. Of course, we’re also realistic, seeing as how it’s a very long list and contains games like Bioshock and… well, other games, but Bioshock is on there, so I’m pretty sure I know right where that particular award is going: Ken Levine’s desk. And you know what? I’m alright with that.

If you’re not too busy now, might we suggest you follow the jump to 1up and vote for some of our fine, fine products? Danke! Remember: Guitar Hero, Call of Duty, Mario, Bioshock, etc. are all selling just fine, but Z-Dub could use some serious love!

Here’s how the award season is looking for Capcom at 1up:

Best Action Game:

  • Resident Evil 4 Wii edition

Best Adventure Game:

  • Zack & Wiki
  • Monster Hunter Freedom 2
  • Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations

Best Console Downloadable Game:

  • Super Puzzle Fighter II HD Remix

Game of the Year:

  • Zack & Wiki

Tell Your Mom and Dad: You’re Practicing For a Successful Career

November 27th, 2007 Chris "Kramez" Kramer

Cash rules everything around meSeems like every time you turn around, there’s doom and gloom surrounding the business of video games. In a happy holiday turn, some good news comes our way from Dan at the ESA regarding the health of the games industry. Turns out that the annual growth rate of the games industry from 2003 - 2006 exceeded 17%, while the US economy as a whole only saw a 4% increase. And, from a personal perspective, you’d be hard pressed to find a more fun, interesting field to work in.

Long story short, sitting up all night jamming on Rock Band is not only granting you mad drumming skills, but is also prepping you for a potential job in a white-hot technology/entertainment industry.

Note to self: put Gamertag on resume. Read the rest of this entry »

Holiday Sale at the Capcom Store

November 21st, 2007 Seth Killian

Darin has news of some sweet deals starting at the Capcom Store:

Capcom wishes you a Rockin’ Holidays!

Starting Thanksgiving Day and going through New Years Day, buy any 3 items from the Hot Deals section of Capcom’s online store to automatically receive 15% off of those titles at checkout! . Be quick about it, though! There’s a fat man in a red suit interested, and he tends to buy in bulk. Quantities limited to stock on hand. Many of the older titles are out of print and we have but a few.

That’s 15% off prices that are ALREADY lower than you’re gonna find somewhere else on these titles.

In addition to fun stuff like Resident Evil 4, Dead Rising, and Phoenix Wright, there are some really cool games that you might have missed like Godhand and killer7, and even some really high-quality Street Fighter and Darkstalkers figurines. Again, some older titles are available in LIMITED quantities, and when they’re gone, they are GONE. Read more for the full list of available titles, including direct “buy it now” links.
