One of the coolest things in Lost Planet was the Akrid, the insect-like alien lifeforms you are constantly battling against. In Colonies, you can take the battle to the next level: By playing as an Akrid! Hey, as the old saying goes, “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em”. Here’s a video of Akrid Hunter mode in action.
As some of you already know, the upcoming Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Colonies Edition isn’t just your typical “Platinum Hits” re-release. It comes instead packed to the brim with new features, levels, weapons and multiplayer gameplay modes. In addition, there are new achievements to obtain, up to a full list of 1000 points. Here are 10 of the 50 new achievements you can look forward to, some of which you may already be familiar with. Stay tuned for more achievements coming soon!

Good news, everyone! Kick-ass comics publisher Devil’s Due Publishing has just announced that they’ve signed up a couple of Capcom’s franchises. This year, DDP will be launching four new Capcom comics, including Bionic Commando and Lost Planet. Naturally, more info on these comics — as well as the secret identities of the other two titles in the deal — will be hitting during Comic-con in San Diego.

We have a slew of new Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Colonies Edition screenshots and art for ya! The art shows off four new playable characters: The tough looking Eraser, the robotic PT-76, and new Lost Planet ladies Snow Bunnie and Valkyrie. In addition, there’s a couple of new shots of the new Akrid Hunter mode in action.
As always, you can check them all out by going to our Flickr pool by clicking on the image above.
PS Lost Planet super-fan Snow Infernus will only be able to play as Snow Bunnie.

If you own a PS3, unjack your brain from GTAIV for a moment, log in to the PS Store and grab the super-rad Lost Planet theme. Here are some reasons why:
1. It’s gorgeous.
2. It’s free.
3. It was designed by Capcom Unity member Shawn, aka “Snow Infernus,” aka “The Nubbin,” aka “the Capcom Stalker.”
4. PlayStation: The Official Magazine has picked it as their Top Theme of the Month in their June issue.
5. Still free.
PTOM (ugh, that moniker) sez: “Ah, if only all themes were like this!” and we agree. Shawn really outdid himself with this particular theme; all the XMB icons have been replaced with Lost Planet-specific icons, there’s a (somewhat annoying to my wife) shooting sound effect when you move amongst selections, awesome Hi-Def background art that load randomly every time you boot up your Black Box of Doom, etc. Nice work, Shawn!

The cool stat-tracking tools over at our Lost Planet site have been updated to track the action on PlayStation Network as well as XBox Live.
In addition to showing off the best of the best, you can track the stats for any gamertag that’s ever played the game. Find yourself, your friends, or even that camping punk who sniped you 3x last night.

Lost Planet PS3 is getting a patch! They’re updating the networking code to “optimize your online experience” (insert mysterious gong sound here). Anyway it sounds like good news to me!
The patch is set for immediate release and is currently being rolled out on PS3s everywhere.

When we announced Lost Planet: COLONIES EDITION, much was made about all the groovy new multiplayer features that have been included for this 360/PC Platinum Hits version. We overlooked the similarly cool new single-player additions a tad, but IGN has caught this oversight and provided their own perspective on LP gaming for the single-minded. After the jump, we’ve embedded videos showing off Score Attack, Trial Battle and First Person view modes.
Off Limit: new hotness mode that unlocks for each stage you have beaten in single player. This is essentially Lost Planet Super Hyper Turbo; Wayne is running, hustling at high speed through the snow while overpowered weapons explode around you like a Michael Bay film. Also: unlimited ammo. W00t!

Earlier this week we managed to turn our normally spacious lobby area into a place packed with a better ratio of Quality Fun Per Square Inch than Disneyland during our Capcom Digital Day. We invited members of the press and community to come and check out in person both the announced and unannounced new titles we have coming up this year. As the event title suggests, the focus was mostly on “digital” titles, downloadable titles to be released on XBLA, PSN, or PC, however, we still managed to sneak in a couple of full retail titles.

It’s no secret that Capcom’s got an amazing year (actually: three, at least) of games ahead. Our titles range far and wide, from family-friendly Wii (We Love Golf!) and DS (Mega Man Star Force 2) games to decidedly non-family friendly faire for the PS3 and 360 (Resident Evil 5).
What the heck is a “Digital Day”? On Monday, we rolled out the red carpet to some of our friends in the local gamer media as well as a couple of dudes (just like you!) from our community for an event we dubbed “Capcom Digital Day.” Fortuitous development timing and a huge slate of hot titles combined with an excellent public relations opportunity to form like Voltron and produce a half-day of announcements, updates, interviews and hands-on time with almost all of the games. We ended up with over 50 members of the San Francisco Bay Area games press in attendance, including folks from EGM, 1up, IGN, Gamespot, Gamespy, Gametrailers and Games Radar, as well as ladies and gentlemen from Wired, Joystiq and Destructoid and many, many more. Read on for titles announced, a brief lesson in “PR” and some other fun bits!
