If You Build It, They Will Come

April 28th, 2008 Seth Killian

So we blew the secret Street Fighter dog-whistle this last weekend. Audible only to tournament champions (and, strangely, possums), the whistle attracted a slew of top Street Fighter players from across the country, with representatives flying in from across the east coast, midwest, west coast, and Texas (which is kind of its own thing) to help us test Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix to its limits.

Everyone was rabid for the game, and in addition to some intense and productive testing sessions, the guys (yes, they were all dudes) also made a stop at Northern California’s premier underground arcade. Names have been omitted to protect those lying to friends and family members about exactly what they were up to this weekend.

We Like You… We Really Like You!

April 8th, 2008 Seth Killian

Who loves ya, baby? We do. That’s why we’re asking ANOTHER group of you to come over to our house and play. That’s twice this week! It’s another new game, and we’d like to hear what you think.

In order to tell us what you think, we need you here, at Capcom HQ, on Monday, April 14th. You need to be here from 1:30pm - 5pm. To apply, tell us which games you’ve purchased for 360, PS3, XBLA, or PSN in the last 3 months. Specify that you are applying for the April 14th session, and send it in to contest@capcom.com. You must be at least 18 years old with valid ID to participate, and yes, there will be gifts for you. Fabulous gifts!

PS- Yes, this is a different game than we’re testing in THIS test.

SF Bay Area Gamers: Heed the Call!

April 7th, 2008 Seth Killian

We’re looking for a few of you to come in for a very special meeting at Capcom HQ. You know the drill: play one of our secret new games, complain about it, profit (re: we give you free stuff). An afternoon with us is guaranteed to be more fun than dling low-res scans of the new Haruhi manga!*

The test is at here at Capcom’s San Mateo HQ, on Thursday, April 10 (that’s THIS Thursday), from 2pm - 4pm. To apply, send your name, age, phone number, and your preferred gaming platform (PS3, PC, 360, Wii, etc.) to contest@capcom.com. You must be over 18 years old with valid ID to participate!

*Not an actual guarantee.

PS- no, the game is not Bat Man-related in any way. Geez.

Reasons Behind No SSF2T HD Remix Beta on PS3

March 14th, 2008 Seth Killian

Over in the Ask Capcom forum, Christian Svensson (Capcom’s Vice-President of Strategic Planning & Business Development) weighed in on some disappointment about the Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix Beta not coming to PS3.

A few additional points:

1. We are resource constrained. This project already has gone over the original budget (we had a new budget approved to accomodate our dedication to its quality and the new features… there were even a few we wanted to do that had to get cut in the end… more on that in a post mortem blog or something). Anyway, we wanted to do a beta to test the new network features but even if it were possible for Sony to do, it would require 3 submissions (US, Europe, Asia/Japan) to reach the same global audience we can with MS in a single test and global submission.

2. We treat the PS3 extremely seriously. To date, we are still the only third party publisher doing cross platform, simultaneous digital releases (still working on the global simultaneous, but see the issues above on multiple submissions per territory as an issue). Believe it or not, this is not easy and to suggest we aren’t treating the PS3 as important would be ignorant of what we’re doing for it.

This is How We Roll

March 11th, 2008 Seth Killian

Randy, pictured above, rolls with a Poogie on his head. Not just any common Poogie either, but Monster Hunter’s limited, first-edition Poogie that you can’t even buy anywhere. Possibly the Poogie will fall off of Randy’s head and into a crevice. Do we care? We do not. Capcom’s Scrooge McDuck-style vault of swag is so swollen that we sometimes drop this stuff and can’t even be bothered to pick it up.

When you are lucky enough to be let into Capcom HQ for one of our exclusive focus tests, we will shower you with this stuff. It’s not even because we like you–we just have to get rid of it somehow.

While it might *seem* like Randy is taking a bunch of sweet games down to our focus testers, he’s could just be trying to clean off his desk. Maybe he just threw this stuff out. I don’t even know because it’s not even a blip on my radar, people.

More swag and some exciting pics of our top secret new game being tested can be found in the flickr set.

SFIV on location test in Japan

February 26th, 2008 Seth Killian

The rumors are true–a new build of SFIV has hit Japanese arcades. Though still far from complete, the new build does have some additional content beyond the version recently on display at GDC, and we have some pictures of a few of the machines with people playing on stages never before seen publicly.

Thanks Guys

January 29th, 2008 Seth Killian

So we invited in some fans to take a look at a new Capcom game last Friday. We can’t talk about the game just yet (and neither can they :)), but we did hit them up with some stuff as a “thank you for coming in to play our cool pre-release games.”

The pic doesn’t really show off the juice, but here’s a breakdown of what was in the bags: Resident Evil The Essentials (includes RE: Code Veronica X, RE Outbreak, and RE4), Capcom Classics for DS, Mega Man Advent ZX for DS, Zack & Wiki and Harvey Birdman for the Wii. Non-game stuff included an Okami Buddha Board, Resident Evil filtered facemask, water bottle, and sticker, Zack & Wiki 3d magnetic puzzle + stickers, Ace Attorney plush, old-school Monster Hunter poogie plush, Devil May Cry “Dante’s Awakening” t-shirt, Capcom “EVOLVE” t-shirt, Devil May Cry 4 art book, Devil May Cry 4 knit cap, 1 can Umbrella Corporation “Revive” energy drink. No partridge in a pear tree.

Thanks for coming in guys, and for everyone that wasn’t able to get in, stay tuned for our next invitation to a new batch of fans.
