Wired’s always-entertaining music blog, the Listening Post, has a nice piece up on Capcom Unity’s golden child, Random.
Random talks about the love for Mega Man that inspired his Mega Ran album, and talks at length about our crazy policy of encouraging the good stuff from our fans instead of, you know, suing them. Check it out here.
PS- we only give thumbs-up to the GOOD fan stuff–your hentai mugen Kobun games are still banned.
Comicbookresources.com has a great, in-depth piece detailing UDON’s upcoming Street Fighter Tribute art book, which collects Street Fighter art from big-name comic artists as well as art submitted by fans just like you.
They talk to UDON staff, individual artists, and provide plenty of sneak-peeks at the motherlode of SF art contained within. Check it out here!
Here’s a quote from her write-up, which I like because it says a lot about the new, community-scented breezes blowing at Capcom:
After introductions were made of the main Capcom players and event heads, I was a little mortified when they asked for us Community folks to stand up and get introduced as well. So I stood up in my Trigun Tshirt, tiniest person there, and waved hello to the gaming press like a sixth grader at the first day of school, while being introduced as “[she] runs the large Ace Attorney site.” To my shock, murmurs of recognition went through the crowd. People in suits recognized what that meant. I think I almost died (in a good way).
Just a few “best in class” Monster Hunter fan-made movies to keep the fires burning in the West for this runaway smash hit from Japan. My favorite is embedded above, but this one is also pretty hot.
Thanks to Capcom Unity member kaiser-blade for the tip!
Superfan Shawn Baxter is back with a fresh new set of wallpapers for Lost Planet Colonies! Though they look great on a desktop, hese 6 (yes, 6!) wallpapers were specially made for easy import onto your XBox 360.
Creating a custom background requires a few extra steps, but isn’t hard and is totally worth it in terms of awesome. If you’ve never done it before, read this thread for some quick tips on how to get it done, and check here for all the other wallpapers.
The Gaming Historian travels back to investigate the origins of the Blue Bomber. In addition to being filled with a bunch of Mega Man fun facts, it also opens with quote from the father of the New Criticism, Robert Penn Warren. Classy!
Yes, the Megas are oneofmany Mega Man-inspired musical acts, but they’re not inspired by just ANY Mega Man–they’re inspired by Mega Man 2. Mega Man 1? Get bent. Mega Man 3? For bandwagoners! Mega Man 2 is where it’s at. That’s what I call focus!
Since the year 200X (4), The Megas have strived to bring a message from Dr. Light to the people. They have chosen to transmit that message, the tale of a small blue robot named Megaman, directly into the eardrums of the general populace through the power of rock.
Some nice work from master illusionist and Capcom Unity member CptMunta. Click here to break the illusion’s spell, and here to see more on his Pavement Art website.
A lovely piano arrangement of the classic theme from Dr. Wily’s Castle. Fan-made Mega Man music is always great (well, maybe not always) and there’s a ton of it, but here are few more of our recent favorites:
Spotted on the sometimes questionable but occasionally awesome 4chan, Street Fighter IV and Okami themed wallpapers! Click on the images to get to the original large sizes on our Flickr pool.
I’d credit the whoever made these, but they were posted as Anonymous, as most 4chan posters tend to do.
Update: Thanks to commentors, I can give credit where credit is due. The above SF4 image was created by Giovanny. The Okami image is entitled Okami - 13 Brush Gods, by syncaidia@dA over on Deviant Art.
