Remember when we announced that we would release 100 autographed DMC 4 Collectors Edition on both the PS3 and the Xbox 360? Well we have been informed that one lucky consumer has found one. The story goes like this: A Gamestop employee by the name of John Mangis had sold the game to this lucky gamer and told him about autographed copies of the game. The consumer immediately opened the game to reveal Hiroyuki Kabayashi’s signature! Apparently John had picked that very copy for himself but thought that the chances of getting one were very slim so he sold it to the first customer he had. Tough luck but maybe next time. Thank you John and the rest of the employees of Gamestop Store #1050 and #697 for letting us know about this and taking the picture.
The whole Devil May Cry 4 PS3 install-time issue continues to garner attention in the gaming media. Mainly, what, people are confused with all that free-time and what to do with it. Well, Penny Arcade to the rescue! By clicking on the image above, you can see some of their handy-dandy suggestions on how to use your newfound free-time wisely.
We’ve got the top 10 tips from Prima’s new DMC4 Strategy Guide, as well as a multi-page look inside the guide itself. Check out the sample pages here and here, and pick yourself up a copy over at Prima’s site.
Devil May Cry 4: Tips for Success from Prima Games
Tip #1: Know Your Moves!
Each playable character has a unique repertoire of combination attacks. Open the Pause menu to view the character’s abilities. Use the button combinations listed there to attack, evade, and explore with style.
Tip #2: Don’t Get Comfortable!
Enemies can hit a stationary player character more easily, whether he is on the ground or in midair. Avoid more attacks by moving continuously. Refrain from shooting while midair when facing enemies that fire projectiles.
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen on CNN lately? I’m guessing that, right after dancing Spongebob, the image of Harvey at the left ranks pretty high.
After the FOX News Mass Effect “s-Xbox” brouhaha over the last few weeks, it’s easy to fall back into the “all TV ‘journalists’ are idiots” mentality, that the grinning pretty skulls who host “news” shows on the boob tube know as much about video games as you do about nuclear medicine (probably even less) . While it’s true that the one-eyed wondermonkey does have its fair share of borderline Neanderthals, CNN’s Matt Cabral is not to be lumped in with those anchors who view video games in the same way the apes at the start of 2001 viewed the Monolith: something strange to beat with a club. Whew! Sorry, RantMode = 0.
Matt recently popped up on Ted Turner’s 24 Britney Spears Emergency Update Network to talk slowly and patiently to the folks in the fly-over states about video games and how they can be, y’know, fun and not scary (although he does end his segment with a bit linking games and nuclear annihilation — what’s a CNN segment without making you brown your shorts?). Matt talks about the Lost game (eek!), the Guinness Book of Video Game Records (really?) and most importantly, Harvey Birdman and Devil May Cry 4.
To view a talking head on the teevee who actually knows something about video games (plus rocks a goatee-shaved head-earring combo you only wish you could pull off), check this link.
Hey, all. It’s true: the first time you drop your DMC4 Blu-Ray disc into your PS3 tray, you’re going to be treated to an exciting 22 - 25 minute load process as the disc spins a few gigs of data onto your hard drive. While the game is loading, you get to watch a really nifty series of screens that completely catch you up on the DMC4 backstory. Think of it as compressing the last three “seasons” into a single info blast, accompanied by some fantastic DMC artwork. It’s great for those new to the series and also a good refresher to serious fans (you can also check out all these screens again later in the Library mode).
If you don’t want to watch the “Previously, on Devil May Cry…” portion of the install process, go make a sandwich and grab a soda, then come on back. You’re going to be spending some serious time with this game, and we don’t want you going hungry. Low blood sugar will make you dizzy and you’ll need to be focused like an Alan Parsons Project to defeat the enemies in this game.
Wah! The game takes 20 minutes to install the first time. Wah! Have you ever played a PC game? At least we aren’t making you shuffle multiple discs into a ROM drive, or continuously click “Yes!” on a series of endless Windows dialog boxes. Installing on a console may seem like a weird idea, but there’s a real benefit. Unreal Tournament also has an option to install files onto your PS3; I’ve done it and it makes a great game even better.
Once installed — once, mind, not every time you play, as I’ve seen “reported” on certain web sites less interested in facts than in OMG histrionics — the PS3 version of the game has near-Super Nintendo speed load times. You’ll be amazed how fast levels load, the virtually instantaneous transition from cut scenes to action and that you’re continuously playing the game, as opposed to staring at loading screens of a door opening every time you move from one room to the next.
PS: all DMC4 cut scenes are also instantly skippable, just in case you’re pressed for time. You can always go back later and watch any cut scene you skipped in Theater mode once you’ve beaten the level. Heck, the game will even play all cut scenes in order without pausing, which is sorta like watching a DMC4 CG movie!
If you bumped into Reuben Langdon in a gothic cathedral, you’d be excused for checking to see if he was holding weaponry or about to transform into a demon. Reuben has provided mo-cap and VO for everyone’s favorite demon-slayer-who-isn’t-Buffy for the last few years. Today, Reuters news service has an article entitled “Videgames Gives Actors Second Chance” — which is vaguely insulting to both games and actors, if you think about it — but contains some quick words from the man who makes Dante sound so crazy/sexy/smirky. It’s a quick bit, buried beneath some
“Before the game came out, nobody knew who I was,” Langdon said. “I get way more attention than I ever got as a (screen) actor.”
As we previously mentioned, our Devil May Cry 4 Betrayer/Betrayed and Deceiver/Deceived campaign is now in full swing. First the fly posters were spotted in San Francisco, and now they’ve been spotted in New York as well, as seen here in between Roscoe and the NY Ballet. Perhaps there’s a theme here that I’m not detecting.
Anyways, click on the image above to check them out.
Update: A couple of images (with the 2nd image looking like it did come out of Cloverfield) from out Flyposter contest regarding these posters. Image 1, image 2.
Just a cool video showing off the way Dante takes care of bidness. It takes us from the DMC1 days right up through DMC4, with a little detour through Viewtiful Joe land along the way
Amerika-Mura in Osaka is one of those truly uniquely Japanese locales that most gamers/anime fans/n3rrrdz assume makes up 90% of the island nation of Japan (the other 10% split equally between ninjas, robots that turn into other things and giant rubbery monsters). Gwen Stefani might have taught a nation of teenaged white girls about Harajuku, but those chicks are posers compared to the hardcore rock fashionistas that cruise this Osaka hotspot.
