Crispy Gamer Puts Hiroyuki Kobayashi On The Hot Seat

February 22nd, 2008 Chris Tou

Crispy Gamer has an interview up with our Hiroyuki Kobayashi, producer of the recently released Devil May Cry 4. In it, Kobayashi discusses the cultural references in DMC4, deftly deflects shots at Devil May Cry 2 (Let’s just pretend it never existed), what inspirations went into DMC4, and the possibility of DMC4 on the Wii:

“You know, a lot of people ask us if we are going to bring out a Wii version. I simply don’t think you can make the game the type of game it is, with the awesome graphics and control — I don’t think that would work on the Wii. So, I don’t think we’re going to bring one out, no.”

Check out the whole interview on Crispy Gamer.

Nothing says “Be My Sweetie” like a half-demon with a rose between his teeth

February 12th, 2008 Chris "Kramez" Kramer

Dante is for lovers

True story: the ladies, they love the Dante. Stone gamer hotties like Jessica Chobot (she of PSP-licking fame and a professed lover of all things Zack and Wiki) have glowingly expressed their mushy feelings for our (half-)man in the red trench coat. Is it his sarcastic humor? His piercing stare and metrosexual hairstyle? His… big guns? *slap* Sorry. Whatever the magic is, make sure to share some with your lurve interest on St. Hallmark’s Day with our handy-dandy DMC Valentine’s Day eCard mail-o-tron. If you’re not feeling particularly inspired when it comes to the love lettering, here are a few suggestions from our Unity team:

  • Be still your beating heart.
  • Cry your heart out.
  • Don’t speak.
  • Be mine… forever
  • Such a bleeding heart.
  • Looks like you’re wearing your heart on your sleeve.
  • Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Get lost.
  • Let me break your heart…literally.
  • Cross my heart and hope you die.
  • All heart and underworld soul.
  • Your heart bleeds for me.
  • Serious as a heart attack.
  • The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. With a sharp blade.

If this doesn’t convince your heart’s desire to make with the snuggles come Feb. 14, dump that hot mess and move along. That way, you’ll have more time to finish DMC4 on “Dante Must Die” difficulty.

Major Nelson and Kramer talk DMC4 (and giant robots and a tease of RE5)

February 11th, 2008 Chris "Kramez" Kramer

No, not that Major NelsonSssshh! Don’t tell Major Nelson, but everything we’re doing on Capcom Unity is essentially following the gamer blog trail that he has so thoughtfully blazed for our industry. I’ve respected Larry’s work since he began blogging for Xbox and I marvel every day that there aren’t more game companies following in his footsteps. That said, I got a real charge out of chatting with him for his podcast about Devil May Cry 4. We talked DMC background and history, install controversy, new gameplay mechanics, crazy Japanese kids in Tokyo and Osaka, how every car in Japan does not actually turn into a robot (unfortunately) and tease listeners a bit about Bionic Commando, Dark Void, Street Fighter IV and Resident Evil 5. If you’ve got a few minutes, take a listen; I apologize in advance for my voice, which is akin to the sound of ten thousands locusts trapped in Barbara Streisand’s nose.

DMC4 demo: 1 million downloads and counting!

February 11th, 2008 Chris "Kramez" Kramer

Thanks a million!

Usually, software and hardware publishers keep their numbers close to the vest, out of concerns that info could be spun against them. The Microsoft LIVE guys, however, are much smarter than that, and were very pleased to share with us the recent news that, as of Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, the Devil May Cry 4 demo had been downloaded over a million times by 360 players worldwide! According to the LIVE crew, not only is this the first demo of the year to hit a million downloads, but it’s also one of the fastest downloads to hit the one million mark in the history of the LIVE service. The demo dropped on January 24, and was averaging over 25,000 downloads a day. That’s a lotta devil bringing, folks. Thanks for making the DMC4 demo — and the game! — popular like a donut shop next door to a Weight Watchers.

Register your copy of Devil May Cry 4 and Win

February 11th, 2008 Seth Killian

Buried deep within the recesses of the second most unread piece of literature to come out last week (my book on beard care and grooming was #1)—a.k.a. the DMC4 manual—is an offer I feel confident calling “nifty.” The manual encourages you to stop by reg.capcom.com to register your purchase. Along with the standard hoo-ha, you can fill out a Devil May Cry consumer quiz that we’re going to—gasp—actually read! As thanks we’ll send you a free coupon for use at your next visit to the Capcom Store.

So you can play DMC4 (win), then register it and get a free coupon (win). According to my math, that’s one of those “win-win” situations I’ve read about. At this time we’re only asking North and South American DMC4 owners to register their products. Thanks.

PS- just to get the ball rolling, send me a picture of you at the reg screen and I’ll send the first few responders a free copy of the DMC4 art book.
