The guys over at 360 Sync have put together a really awesome web scavenger hunt with a ton of other Xbox websites. The event is called “Unlock the Achievement” and takes you across more than four dozen Xbox sites, including Evil Avatar, Xbox 360 Fanboy and the Official Xbox Magazine website. Capcom has even coughed up some prizes for the event, so you know it’s going to be good stuff.
From their official release:
Players – the name referring to visitors involved in the Scavenger Hunt, which will give the illusion that they are playing a game of some sort – will start by visiting their favorite Xbox 360 themed website. From there, they’ll be asked to look for clues on how to find hidden “Achievements,” located on each of website involved. Each website will be given 5 of these achievements, ranging in difficulty from Paris Hilton Easy to Expert Guitar Hero III. As players “unlock” more of these Achievements, their progress will be tracked on leaderboards featuring Real-Time Position Changes, in turn becoming eligible to win prizes.
As previously discussed, Devil May Cry is about as rock-’n-roll as you can get in a video game series without including any actual rock-’n-roll. Recognizing this, Games Radar ran a super badass DMC4 contest for their readers, with the penultimate prize being this custom painted Peavey electric guitar. The Games Radar guys stopped by the Capcom labs today and brought in the final product to show us, which we are now showing you. Bad news is that the contest is already over — in fact, Games Radar will be letting the winner know tomorrow that they have a new guitar (with certificate of authenticity/awesomeness) coming their way. Gaze upon these pictures in sorrow, as you are most likely not going to be getting this axe in the mail. I’m not getting it neither (oo! double negative!), but that didn’t stop me from going all Jesse from Slobberbone/The Drams*.
A few weeks back we posted a little Bionic Commando Rearmed contest, inviting you to design your own “Challenge Room” for the game. We got lots and lots of cool entries. Some people wrote out an idea, others drew, and some even turned the tools we provided into their own photoshopped masterpieces. Great and small, they all got sent off to the Bionic Commando team.
There, a spirited debate broke out (and, knowing that team, probably at least one slap-fight) over the winner. Eventually, they settled on this inspired scrawl from Aaron Sedillo, and turned it into…
Sometimes my job is really fun, as is the case today. In working towards the release of Okami, we have been providing our partners with some amazing pieces of Okami art in order to put together beautiful articles about the game. Just take a look at the latest EGM or Play (with POSTER!) to see what I’m talking about. In fact, we’ve given them so much art, they’ve never used it all. Ten DVDs full of art go a long way, let me tell you.
To celebrate the launch of Okami on the Wii, we wanted to find a special way to thank all the vocal Okami fans that encouraged us to take a second shot at success with this title. We looked at special tiny art books for preorder, but the format didn’t do the art justice and we wanted to reward the fans of the PS2 version as well.
So, without further adu, I’d like to present http://www.okamiart.com. This is a collection of almost every piece of Okami art we’ve made, set up in beautiful gallery form for your downloadable pleasure. Working with our friends at Udon, there’ s also a beatiful large art book you can order from the site.
Featuring original art, character art, backgrounds, desktop downloads, chat icons, and even a user fan art section, http://www.okamiart.com is everything you ever wanted to see of our favorite goddess turned wolf.
Also, in the coming weeks, we’ll be having some fan art competitions both on http://www.okamiart.com and our friends over at DeviantArt.com. With some amazing prizes, you should get drawing today and submit them to our expert panel of judges for both internet fame and some exclusive Okami items.
Thank you again for all your support and remember to buy Okami for the Wii on April 15th!
Created by Capcom artist Shinkiro, the exploding head “Pop Goes the Dictator” t-shirt pays homage to the most famous moment in the original Bionic Commando: beating “Master-D” and thrilling to one of the most shockingly gruesome and unexpected displays of 8-bit gore in gaming history.
Any fan of the original NES Bionic Commando wants this shirt, but the Grinches over at Bionic Commando HQ aren’t just giving them away. Instead, they have issued a challenge to the hardcore fans in the form of a contest:
Recreate the legendary exploding head scene, using whatever real-life methods you choose, or your favorite generic photo editing software. Buy a jumbo bottle of tomato ketchup and a large collection of fireworks, use your favourite photo imaging software to recreate the real thing, or take your airgun collection to the watermelon section of the local supermarket - just recreate that scene.
You’ve got about two weeks to get those entries in to us, or you’ll never have another chance again, because Master-D is taking these shirts to his grave…
This white version of the shirt is modeled by the finely-sculpted Colin, although the picture is of course ruined by Frank, who physically cannot walk past a camera without throwing up the horns, trying to flash you, or giving someone the bunny ears.
Contest details are HERE, and you can submit your entry HERE.
Australian site PALGN teamed up with Capcom for a fun fan-film contest to promote DMC4, and the results are in.
All the vids are work-safe, but Devil May Cry is all about pouty shirtlessness, so be on guard for live-action versions of same. The embedded video above actually only got 2nd place, but it’s first in my heart. The actual first-place winner is here, and third place can be found here. Great stuff all around.
UDON is cooking up a cool new art book, featuring character interpretations from artists who grew up on Street Fighter. The best part is that in addition to their handpicked contributors, the contest is open to anyone that wants to submit! Click here for the details and submission guidelines.
“The Street Fighter fans who were young players when the franchise first launched are now grown up, but their love of the game continues. This high quality art book, showcases a cross section of brand new artistic interpretations of the Street Fighter characters in a series of full size pin-up style illustrations. The book will launch at this year’s Comic-con International: San Diego as part of Capcom’s Street Fighter Celebration content.
UDON artists and other comic, video game and freelance illustrators have been invited to interpret their favorite Street Fighter characters for inclusion in this special book. Along with these invited artists UDON is sending out a widespread open art submission call to the video game fan artist community to submit artwork for possible inclusion in the tribute volume.
You could be part of Capcom history as part of the Street Fighter Tribute art book and have your artwork showcased alongside top names in the industry! It’s time to show UDON and Capcom your unique vision of Street Fighter!”
