I don’t understand you kids today, with your podcasts and vblogging and Twittering. In my day, we read message boards and sometimes talked on the phone. Stay offa my lawn!
The 1up crew dropped us a note today to let us know that they discussed Capcom’s Digital Day in depth on their EGM Live! podcast from 3/17.
You can pick up the 1up podcast from iTunes or directly from 1up right here.
Highlight of the podcast: Shoe realizing during the podcast that we called Digital Day “Digital Day” because we focused on our digital titles. This is all the sweeter after Shoe’s recent announcement that he’s leaving EGM/1up for a much deserved break. Hope that Mega Man StarForce 2 didn’t crush his spirits!

Sometimes my job is really fun, as is the case today. In working towards the release of Okami, we have been providing our partners with some amazing pieces of Okami art in order to put together beautiful articles about the game. Just take a look at the latest EGM or Play (with POSTER!) to see what I’m talking about. In fact, we’ve given them so much art, they’ve never used it all. Ten DVDs full of art go a long way, let me tell you.
To celebrate the launch of Okami on the Wii, we wanted to find a special way to thank all the vocal Okami fans that encouraged us to take a second shot at success with this title. We looked at special tiny art books for preorder, but the format didn’t do the art justice and we wanted to reward the fans of the PS2 version as well.
So, without further adu, I’d like to present http://www.okamiart.com. This is a collection of almost every piece of Okami art we’ve made, set up in beautiful gallery form for your downloadable pleasure. Working with our friends at Udon, there’ s also a beatiful large art book you can order from the site.
Featuring original art, character art, backgrounds, desktop downloads, chat icons, and even a user fan art section, http://www.okamiart.com is everything you ever wanted to see of our favorite goddess turned wolf.
Also, in the coming weeks, we’ll be having some fan art competitions both on http://www.okamiart.com and our friends over at DeviantArt.com. With some amazing prizes, you should get drawing today and submit them to our expert panel of judges for both internet fame and some exclusive Okami items.
Thank you again for all your support and remember to buy Okami for the Wii on April 15th!

I just responded to a thread in the forums asking about Capcom’s annual “Gamers Day” and when it will be happening this year. Based on the amount of views and responses in the thread, I thought I should jump in to clarify. Then I ended up writing 800 words. Much like Ryan Adams, I really need an editor to keep me on track. Enough interesting info poured into my post, based on several random things I’ve got cooking here, that I thought I’d also cross-post here on the blog.
Officially, we have killed our Gamers Day event. Dead, like doornail. We’ve moved instead to a new media summit format, which we’re calling CAPTIVATE08, and holding in Las Vegas at the end of May. You might not really care, but there’s a bunch of information about the event after the jump, hints towards what’s coming/being shown, vaguely ramblings on the next phase of Capcom Unity and the tantalizingly-dangled news that members of our community are going to have the opportunity to attend our media summit. Got some time to kill? Follow the link to more words!

It’s no secret that Capcom’s got an amazing year (actually: three, at least) of games ahead. Our titles range far and wide, from family-friendly Wii (We Love Golf!) and DS (Mega Man Star Force 2) games to decidedly non-family friendly faire for the PS3 and 360 (Resident Evil 5).
What the heck is a “Digital Day”? On Monday, we rolled out the red carpet to some of our friends in the local gamer media as well as a couple of dudes (just like you!) from our community for an event we dubbed “Capcom Digital Day.” Fortuitous development timing and a huge slate of hot titles combined with an excellent public relations opportunity to form like Voltron and produce a half-day of announcements, updates, interviews and hands-on time with almost all of the games. We ended up with over 50 members of the San Francisco Bay Area games press in attendance, including folks from EGM, 1up, IGN, Gamespot, Gamespy, Gametrailers and Games Radar, as well as ladies and gentlemen from Wired, Joystiq and Destructoid and many, many more. Read on for titles announced, a brief lesson in “PR” and some other fun bits!

Street Fighter. Mega Man. Devil May Cry. Lost Planet. Resident Evil. Onimusha. Ace Attorney. Dead Rising. Bionic Commando.
Capcom is responsible for some of the most revered characters and properties in video game history and now its our turn to add to the slate by invigorating old IPs and creating wholly new ones (Don’t worry, we’re leaving Final Fight and Maximo in hibernation… those were the olden days…)

Usually, software and hardware publishers keep their numbers close to the vest, out of concerns that info could be spun against them. The Microsoft LIVE guys, however, are much smarter than that, and were very pleased to share with us the recent news that, as of Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, the Devil May Cry 4 demo had been downloaded over a million times by 360 players worldwide! According to the LIVE crew, not only is this the first demo of the year to hit a million downloads, but it’s also one of the fastest downloads to hit the one million mark in the history of the LIVE service. The demo dropped on January 24, and was averaging over 25,000 downloads a day. That’s a lotta devil bringing, folks. Thanks for making the DMC4 demo — and the game! — popular like a donut shop next door to a Weight Watchers.

Remember when we announced that we would release 100 autographed DMC 4 Collectors Edition on both the PS3 and the Xbox 360? Well we have been informed that one lucky consumer has found one. The story goes like this: A Gamestop employee by the name of John Mangis had sold the game to this lucky gamer and told him about autographed copies of the game. The consumer immediately opened the game to reveal Hiroyuki Kabayashi’s signature! Apparently John had picked that very copy for himself but thought that the chances of getting one were very slim so he sold it to the first customer he had. Tough luck but maybe next time. Thank you John and the rest of the employees of Gamestop Store #1050 and #697 for letting us know about this and taking the picture.

So, congratulations if you can read this, it means our servers are momentarily working. I’d like to personally apologize to the internet at large for our current inability to get our nonsense sorted. Our blog, various portions of the website and the forums are going up and down like trained seals at Sea World (I could have opted for something dirtier here, but we follow the spirit of the ESRB guidelines, if not the letter).
You may have noticed the time (and money) that Capcom has put into growing our online community presence over the last year. The good news is that in the last 16 months, our traffic and registered users has jumped by a huge factor, something along the lines of 4x where we were when Seth and I started here in Nov. 2006. The bad news is that this huge growth in traffic means that our poor, cranky servers are as overwhelmed as Jessica Simpson at a spelling bee. Bright side is that new servers have been ordered, so we should be rocking some serious hardware next week. Until then, please bear with us.

Hello World. I have an announcement to make. This is Scarlett…sort of. With this awesome new blog format, I’m going to take the opportunity to come out of my Scarlett shell and tell you that my name is Christine and I am a videogame addict.
(”Hello Christine”)
Hello, internet world! From here on out, I am going to be blogging regularly about all and sundry stuff under my normal name rather than a moniker. Why in heaven’s name would I be so silly? Maybe it’s the Holiday Nog and twinkly Christmas lights around my cube. (What the heck is “Nog” anyway?) Or maybe I want to share with the world my real videogame background and say “hi!” to a few peeps who have written to ask “Christine, are you Scarlett?” Or maybe it’s because I chopped my long red hair really short and dyed it black, so my nickname is about as appropriate as the Macarena is hip.
No matter, because now it’s out there. I am Christine, I am a longtime videogame player, I am the Copywriter at Capcom, and I have a really bad cold. (*achoo!*) Yet I am here! And I’ll be blogging about movies (Rob Zombie’s Halloween, did we really need to flog a dead horse?), TV shows (’Battlestar Galactica’ coming in Frakkin’ March ‘08, people!!! ‘Heroes’ and Hiro, my hero), and of course, GAMES. I’m happy to answer questions, lend conjecture, and waste your valuable goofing off time. (We know you still have Fark and The Onion to hit, a few minutes of your time and your community interaction is all we ask.) More posts coming soon…
Happy Christmahannakwanzaramsmas!

Sub-zero temperatures and at least a 45-minute wait didn’t stop Devil May Cry fans to play Devil May Cry 4 on the PS3 and Xbox 360 at this year’s New York Anime Festival. Yes, actually play DMC4 before it hits stores on February 5th!
Thank you to all of you that came by our booth. And sorry for not letting in all the under-17 year olds to play—I know you understand even though you were hating on us.
P.S.: Ashley—we’ll see you at the next festival, and first in line to play Devil May Cry?
P.P.S.: Mom and Daughter team—we’re still waiting for you to post that video of Mom playing DMC4!

The line to play DMC4 stretches around the corner

If only you took life so serious, too

A visit from Nero himself

I Object! Go wait in line!

Hey, isn’t that Mario playing Zack & Wiki?
