Why we love Japan: Doraemon appointed official anime ambassador

March 20th, 2008 Chris "Kramez" Kramer

Doraemon FTWI’ve had to do some odd things in my professional career — organize a community-driven bikini pageant, help Harvey Birdman into his costume, bring Snoop Dogg and Biz Markie bags full of video games at a John Singleton party in Miami — but I have never had to officiate over a ceremony where a cartoon character was named to an ambassadorial position. Yet.

I love Japan and all things uniquely Japanese: seeing a photo of the Foreign Minister of the country telling a giant time-traveling robot cat “Doraemon, I hope you will travel around the world as an anime ambassador to deepen people’s understanding of Japan so they will become friends with Japan,” only makes me love the country and its people more.

Dear Japan, I want to be your friend. Will you be mine?

Signed,

Kramer

Count the game references - Mauvais Rôle

February 20th, 2008 Colin

Every now and then, student animation projects are just downright amazing.  This one is from a French animation project.  Called Mauvais Rôle, or Bad Role, it follows a fantasy RPG demon as he looks for a new job.  Just try and count the video game references, there are a ton!  If you pay attention, you can even see Mega Man.  Enjoy and remember: subtitles improve reading skills!

Click here to check it out. Also be sure to check out their Street Fighter art site, with lots of good submissions.

Devil May Cry 4 Visits Gotham

December 11th, 2007 Lindsay

Sub-zero temperatures and at least a 45-minute wait didn’t stop Devil May Cry fans to play Devil May Cry 4 on the PS3 and Xbox 360 at this year’s New York Anime Festival. Yes, actually play DMC4 before it hits stores on February 5th!

Thank you to all of you that came by our booth. And sorry for not letting in all the under-17 year olds to play—I know you understand even though you were hating on us.

P.S.: Ashley—we’ll see you at the next festival, and first in line to play Devil May Cry?

P.P.S.: Mom and Daughter team—we’re still waiting for you to post that video of Mom playing DMC4!

The line to play DMC4 stretches around the corner

Devil May Cry: The Animated Series DVD coming Feb. 5, 2008

December 6th, 2007 Chris "Kramez" Kramer

“Dear Capcom,” (you might write, hypothetically), “I sure do love Dante! I’ve enjoyed all of his many excellent adventures throughout the various Devil May Cry games — even through DMC3 made me break my controller and use strong language. However, I really would like to see more of that irascible half-demon and his sardonic approach to the dispatching of demons, forces of the evil, etc. How can I go about getting more Dante in my life?”

Fear not, Dante fans! In February, you’ll be able to enjoy some serious devil stabbing on DVD! Our buddies over at ADV Films have just announced that Volume 1 of Devil May Cry: The Animated Series will be hitting North American retail shelves the exact same day as the game, which is Feb. 5, 2008. How’s that for synchronicity? Volume 1 of the DVD can either be purchased as a stand-alone product (US$26.96) or comes included in the Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition package. Neat!

All pertinent info can be found after the skip…
