15 Projects Cooking and We Need More Chefs

February 29th, 2008 Seth Killian

Street Fighter. Mega Man. Devil May Cry. Lost Planet. Resident Evil. Onimusha. Ace Attorney. Dead Rising. Bionic Commando.

Capcom is responsible for some of the most revered characters and properties in video game history and now its our turn to add to the slate by invigorating old IPs and creating wholly new ones (Don’t worry, we’re leaving Final Fight and Maximo in hibernation… those were the olden days…)

We’ve got a different outlook on things then the big guys out there. We care about quality first and foremost, and we work closely with our partners to make great games. We have to – that’s what sets Capcom apart from the rest. We know how to launch new IPs, nail great gameplay, and create hugely successful franchises. Capcom’s track record proves that that isn’t just lip service.

Although we work with external development teams, all of our production staff works very closely with our partners. From what I’ve heard, many 3rd party Producers at other companies can be pretty bad… holding their clipboard and checklist over their developer’s heads trying to armchair-design their games for them. We’re pretty damn honest with our teams, and when there are things that need to be talked about, we create relationships with our 3rd party developers where we can all be as candid as possible. It stings at first, but once the relationship is established it becomes more healthy and productive then any dev partnership I’ve ever seen. Ask any of our dev partners, and they’ll tell you that we work a lot differently then the rest.

We’re in the midst of growing our Product Development team dramatically over the coming few years, and we are looking for the best of the best to join our team. You need to love games. A ton. And you need to be honest, and have great relationships with the past teams that you’ve worked with. Preferably, you’ve worked on some AAA games that have topped charts, and you’re sick of working for the huge conglomerate companies that make sport of crushing your dreams.

We’ve got 15 different projects cooking right now (and more to come) – many that have been announced like Dark Void, Street Fighter 2 HD Remix, Commando 3, Rocketmen, Talisman, MotoGP, Okami Wii, and many more titles that haven’t even been announced. Yet.

Here are links to all of the openings we currently have. We will be adding lots more to the list of job openings, so keep checking it out from month to month and our Product Development group may have the right opening for you.

It’s too bad Capcom Production Studio 8 closed down, I really would like to work at Capcom on the game development side of things, but the only American studio is gone.

I’ve been a huge Capcom-nerd for years and studied many Capcom games inside and out (it made me chuckle whenever a little-known fact was posted here or at Street Fighter Devotion, since I already knew it)… I even spent $400+ on HUNK cosplay for a local convention! (I went as the greatest street fighter ever, Dan Hibiki, last year. ;D) So, my undying loyalty is with Capcom, without a question (and yes, I read these blogs every single day).

I’ve also been coming up with ideas for games for years, I have some fifty-ish unique drafts. I’m going to college for game development, but it seems I’ll have to move to Japan to make my dream come true… argh. I must say, when I started reading this post, my heart skipped a beat: I love games (especially Capcom ones), and job openings… yes! But none in actual game design… shucks.

Oh well, maybe someday…

By the way, sorry for rambling, but, all the pent-up fandom just exploded out of me. And yes, I did register just to reply to this post.

James Goddard should go work at Capcom US again.
…I mean, the Street Fighter II’ Hyper Fighting designer.
That game rocks.
