New interview about Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
January 30th, 2008 Seth KillianDavid Sirlin goes in-depth with videogamer.com about ST HD Remix. Sirlin dishes on a few new character features, explains what this game is all about, talks trash on the next-gen D-pads, and even gets a little misty about the beauty of Street Fighter competition vs team-based games, which are for wussies. I don’t think I’ve heard this yet if it’s already been said, but has there been an official reason given as to why this game is being released exclusively as a download? Why can’t the game be released on tangible media if download restrictions are going to be a problem?
Here are some main reasons why it’s a digital dl exclusively:
1) Doing a full tangible media release with retail support adds a lot of costs to the product (packaging, manufacturing, distribution, etc.). Based on the interest in SF2: HF on XBL, we felt the primary market for a product like this was online, and so opted to spend the extra money on making the game stellar instead of packaging.
2) Retailers may not want it. While there’s obviously a lot of enthusiasm for this with the fans and we hope it will be a big success, if you’re talking to the buyer for a major retail chain it’s harder to excite them about these new features. So even if we make discs and package them, there might not be stores we could sell them in.
best,
Seth
Good thing the PSN doesn’t have size restriction. I hope they can release the game on a Disc for 360 users. But I wish they don’t cut any addition from the PSN version, since is not Sony Fault that Microsoft doesn’t allow bigger size downloads.
Despite Sirlin’s concerns, which are valid, we’re confident we’ll be able to get fully-featured, equal versions of the game on PSN and XBL.
Okay - so now we’re getting “semi-updates” so I’m guessing the real stuff’s on the way right? The interview and the other one on the SF blog are like a one hotwing appetizer. In other words, I liked it but I could sure use so much more! Well, leave the main course in the oven as long as you can… Even if I feel like waiting on it’s pretty tough!!
