Devil May Cry 4: Diary 1
December 18th, 2007 Jason "Creasy" AllenHey, what’s up my name is Jason Allen and I’m the new PR Specialist here at Capcom. For those of you who pay particularly close attention to websites like 1Up, IGN, or GameTap, my name might sound somewhat familiar — I used to work at those sites. Now I’ve managed to infiltrate Capcom and convince them to hire me as an actual employee. My powers of persuasion have gotten me closer to the games development process than ever before, and it’s working out quite nicely. I’ve seen all kinds of thrilling/confidential things that I can’t talk about here, but hopefully I will be allowed to soon, so stay tuned.
So, one of my first projects here is to play Devil May Cry 4. Yes, this is my cross to bear, pity me not. Kidding aside, this one game has exceeded all of my highest expectations.
I’m sure most of you have already determined how great DMC4 looks already just based on the screens we’ve released. The range of textures, ornate architectural designs and colorful palette are all packed with an insane amount of detail. The character models are some of the best I’ve seen in a game to date. And there’s the gameplay, which is tuned just right. No more initial punishing difficulty to contend with (although that option is available for those looking for such a challenge). Moderate or hard, the action comes across as fast and brutal, just as it should. And the weapons are every bit as cool as what we saw in DMC3, if not better. I already want to start over at the beginning just to get a closer look at what I missed. And for complicated reasons — which are unimportant to you — I actually am.
The one thing I’m reminded of while playing DMC4 is that this is the kind of game that tempts you to blow right through it, with all of it’s high stylings, swaggering characters and cleverly choreographed cutscenes. But you must remember to resist such temptations and digest everything available. I found myself forgetting to level up my weapons and abilities just because I was getting sucked into the momentum of the story.
That’s all I have for now; Check back soon for updates. I’m allowed to post some of my DMC4 experiences here as long as I don’t give away the really juicy stuff. And believe me, there are buckets of juicy I’m holding back. Huge buckets. Buckets so huge I can barely lift them, let alone carry them anywhere, so you’ll just have to come see for yourself.

You, sir, are a tease. A huge freakin’ bucket of tease.
