Dark Void Dev Blog!
May 23rd, 2008 Seth KillianDark Void is beginning its move into the limelight with a week-long exclusive focus over at 1Up.com There’s a bunch of great stuff over there but the most fun for my money is the developer’s blog.
Featuring the key players from both Capcom and Airtight, the blog is a great mix of insight from the development and publishing sides, and already ranges over topics from the development of the core gameplay to the team’s new (and terrifying!) philosophy of openness, all served with a side dish of funny.
Check it out here!

Guys, I just watched gameplay for this on GameVideos, the ‘Cover’ gameplay. It looks simply awesome, but this time can you PLEASE not gimp the PS3 version by including a mandatory install. All installs are welcome as long as they are optional.
Next time can we see some gameplay of the PS3 version too?
Well, here’s my theory on why games need an install on the PS3:
I believe Blu-Ray is a technology that was released before it should have, and thus they haven’t perfected it yet. I’m pretty sure the point of installs is to make the game load faster, and from what I heard about Devil May Cry 4, the PS3 version loads only slightly faster than the Xbox 360 version. Doing the math, it seems the PS3 NEEDS mandatory installs for its “bigger” games to make the load times bearable.
Granted, I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure that’s the case. I think Sony got a little TOO confident in releasing Blu-Ray on a console so early… thus why the PS3 was so expensive at first as well. ^^;;
(Of course, I’m an anti-Sony fanboy, so, you can take what I said with a grain of salt if you want.)
Whoops, I also forgot to mention that the gameplay between the two systems is probably identical (if not, really close.) Developers who make cross-platform (as in PS3 and Xbox 360, sometimes PC, not the PS2 ports. :P) games have been pretty good about making them so similar, that only total nerds who are LOOKING for differences would notice… aside from Lost Planet, from what I heard, but that’s another story.
But I’ve seen side-by-side videos, and a few games in action, that I could not tell the difference between the Xbox 360 and the PS3. Namely, Devil May Cry 4, Burnout Paradise, Call of Duty 4, and Grand Theft Auto IV (it’s the year of fours!!!!). So, no need to worry. ^^
Can I get an official response (hopefully) telling me there will not be an installation?
Hi Stunt,
It’s too early to talk about any specifics for PS3 or 360 for that matter.
best,
Seth
