Stylistic shoutout for SFIV from new Prince of Persia creative director

May 14th, 2008 Chris "Kramez" Kramer

character art from the next Prince of PersiaIn the latest issue of Edge, the UK’s highbrow games mag, the creative director of the next Prince of Persia game name checks Street Fighter IV as a reference point for their design. Ubisoft Montreal’s Jean-Christophe Guyot told Edge:

“In terms of style, we know we’re on the right track when you consider something like the new Street Fighter.”

Additionally, Edge reveals that art influences on the new PoP include the aforementioned SFIV, Princess Mononoke, first-person running/hopping/climbing game Mirror’s Edge and everyone’s favorite lupine painter, Okami. Not bad company, really. For the record, we’re looking forward to playing the next Prince of Persia game!

Nice… it’s awesome when other companies see the greatness of Capcom and draw inspiration from it… just like how Epic drew inspiration from RE4 for Gears of War, from what I heard. And don’t get me started on how Street Fighter II sparked the fighting game craze of the 1990’s… >:]

CliffyB is a pretty outspoken fan of Capcom’s games. In fact, last year I arranged a team swap between the Gears of War guys and our Lost Planet team. We each sent the other group a few Collector’s Edition copies signed by the entire team. Big ups to Epic, those guys are amazing! Make sure to download the new Gears2 video offa Xbox LIVE — it looks almost as good as RE5 ;)
