Wired’s always-entertaining music blog, the Listening Post, has a nice piece up on Capcom Unity’s golden child, Random.
Random talks about the love for Mega Man that inspired his Mega Ran album, and talks at length about our crazy policy of encouraging the good stuff from our fans instead of, you know, suing them. Check it out here.
PS- we only give thumbs-up to the GOOD fan stuff–your hentai mugen Kobun games are still banned.
Street Fighter IV fan’s favorite cornball, project manager Shiozawa-san, is back on the SFIV blog mic:

Who is the number one in the West!?
Project Manager:

Hey everyone!
Thanks for all of the comments you guys sent about our promotional video during Capcom USA’s CAPTIVATE’08 event! As we expected, the response to Ryu’s theme was very positive! Hehe, look forward to our next promotional video!
Now, back in April we posted a blog entry with SFIV main designer Ikeno Daigo and some concept sketches of Crimson Viper’s
“Capital Punishment Combo”…
Yes, today, June 11th, 2008 is Capcom’s 25th Anniversary! Click here for a special message to fans and investors from CEO Kenzou Tsujimoto, thanking everyone for their support so far and looking forward to the future.
In addition to the characters from some of Capcom’s signature and best-selling franchises, there’s also some exciting tidbits hidden in the bottom right corner of the image (and by “hidden” I mean written in plain sight, just in Japanese)–a 2009 date for a Clock Tower movie, and 2011 for an Onimusha film!
That much is simple, but unfortunately there’s also a bit of confusion swirling around the details about the Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix Beta (that you get free!). Let me try and clear this up.
To play the SSF2T HD Remix Beta, here’s what you do:
1) Buy Commando 3 on XBL. Play it, love it.
2) In the Commando 3 menu, you’ll notice an option for “Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix Beta” (insert long name joke here). If you hit that option, you’ll get an error. Why is this? Because the SSF2T HD Remix Beta isn’t live until June 25th.
3) If you hit the Beta menu option on or after June 25th, 2008, you’ll be taken to an XBL blade offering to let you download the new SSF2T HD Remix Beta.
4) Download the Beta, and then you can find it your “Games Library” under “Demos.”
5) Start it up and commence dragon-punchery.
And also, just to be clear, the SSF2T HD Remix Beta does not come with Commando 3 on PSN. Unfortunately the Beta is only available with Commando 3 on XBox Live, although the network improvements that we make post-Beta will improve the final, full product on XBL and PSN alike.
*Since I gots no photoshopping skills, I have shamelessly stolen this picture from gamemanx.com.
This time we were lucky enough to get 1Up’s Shane Bettenhausen and Garnett Lee as well as Giant Bomb’s Jeff Gerstmann, and a special guest host in Billy Berghammer. I have to say, I had never “hung out” with Gerstmann but he was not only hilarious but pretty damn nice, too (we’ll see how I feel about him after he reviews Bionic Commando though!).
Next, and definitely not least is a great video of some hot BC multiplayer action. My own HQ upload seems to have no sound, so I’ll link to another version of the video here:
Watch closely to see a variety of special moves in action, including the “zip kick” (grapple an opponent, then reel in to boot them), “death from above” (an air-to-ground slam), and someone narrowly avoiding the dreaded tarantula homing missile.
We’re now excited to announce that the event will also feature the UK public’s first chance to play the arcade final version of STREET FIGHTER IV! It will also be the first chance to get hands-on with the new Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, so it’s truly a “can’t miss” event for any fighting game fans.
More details about the tournament can be found here, or just go straight to the source at battleofdestiny.com
Gamevideos is hosting a new video interview (from Garnett Lee?) with Resident Evil 5 superproducer Jun Takeuchi.
Takeuchi-san talks about what’s been happening in terms of the story (game takes place shortly after RE4), the fate of the Umbrella Corporation, the demise of S.T.A.R.S., and Chris Redfield’s new organization, and the game’s oxymoronically *great* zombie AI.
The Cool Kids are to hip-hop what Wilco is to rock: different, better, smarter. They’re superindie, having gone from dropping beats on myspace to build their hardcore fanbase to now starting to cross over into sorta mainstream radio and video play (in fact, I just heard this track on kexp.org, right beofre Moby stopped in for a guest DJ set). The Cool Kids get heads nodding with the backpack crowd with a sound as rooted in old school as modern hippity-hoppity, but some of their subject matter is supernerdy; witness the shoutouts in the above song “A Little Bit Cooler” to Star Wars belts and eating Fruity Pebbles (mmm… purple milk…) . More importantly, there’s an awesome homage to Street Fighter at the tail end of the track. Jump 1:32 in to hear the duo rap about playing SF on a Sega Genesis, closing with a sweet beatbox imitation of SF sounds. Street Fighter, Street Fighter!
I hate it when awesome stuff gets lost in the shuffle (like when we dump massive piles of CAPTIVATE-related goodness on you all at once), so I’m calling out BC multiplayer specifically!
Yes, full-on, friend-crushing, enemy pwning multiplayer. It’s a really nice fit with the swing, too. Of course you have to swing to get around quickly, and swinging has a great set of advantages (harder to hit, special moves, mobility) and disadvantages (travel arcs more predictable, harder to aim while swinging), both offensively and defensively.
…and damn, is it fun. It’s been hard to keep silent on this feature. Every time someone compared the game to Spiderman - not necessarily a bad thing but still I think BC is a game that stands on its own - I so wanted to bust out this gem of a feature.
Did I mention it was fun? We’ve been playing it for over 6 months and it was gold right from the start. There is something about chasing down another opponent while swinging through the air that just needs to be played to be believed. The swing mechanic totally fits the Multiplayer and creates the perfect balance:
Saturday night turned out to be full of surprises, but one of the most fun was a stop by Super7’s 7th anniversary party.
For those not in the know, Super7 is THE spot for crazy kaiju collectors, vinyl toys, and geek t-shirt armageddon. It’s a small shop, but full of magic. As soon as you step inside, you’re immediately transported into another world, one you may not have even known existed, but one that’s clearly chock full of backstories, mystery, and love, all fueled by the transportive smells of vinyl and electricity in the air.
In addition to getting the Flynn’s makeover with rad OG arcade cabinets, the party also featured special appearances from designers Kiyoka Ikeda and Koji Harmon, as well as everyone’s favorite special guest, free beer!
